Network coverage in Sweden – how does it work? Sweden is a long country and a lot of it is covered by forest and mountains – where famously phone coverage tends not to be so good with all phone plans.
This is where Telia comes in. Telia is a mobile phone and broadband company that was founded in 2002 as part of the governmental agency Televerket. Televerket was founded in 1853 and owned and operated Sweden’s telecommunications network, TV network and mobile network which means that Sweden’s entire physical communications networks where managed by Telia. From the 1920s until 1993, the agency had a monopoly on telephony throughout Sweden, even though no monopoly in the strict legal sense ever existed.
Why does this matter to you?
Well basically when the “monopoly” no longer existed in neither in reality or theory a lot of other telecom companies where introduced to the Swedish market. However, their coverage tends not to be as all covering as Telia.
So why not always chose Telia? Well, they are expensive and not entirely updated on modern services. So if you are mostly located in cities and adjoining areas, then you can happily chose any telecom company that fits your needs and wallet. But if you are the type of person that will find yourself on the top of a mountain or in the middle of nowhere on a forrest adventure – then you should probably stick with one of the more coverage friendly companies like Telia.
Got enough of history? Ok, then off you go to our lists on phone provides and broadband providers. Happy hunting.
