Important phone numbers in Sweden

Where to call in case of emergency in Sweden?

There are four main important phone numbers in Sweden.

  • 112 (for emergencies)
  • 1177  (for medical advice)
  • 114 14 (for non-emergency incidents)
  • 113 13 (for information about none acute accidents and emergencies)

You can dial these numbers from any phone and any location in Sweden.


112 – Emergency

Don’t hesitate to call 112 (SOS alarm). Remember that you have a legal (not just moral) obligation to do so. You reach the following services, when you call 112:

  • Police
  • Fire department
  • Ambulance
  • Sea rescue services
  • Air rescue services
  • Mountain rescue services
  • Poison information
  • Social emergency services
  • On-call priests

1177 – Medical Advice Number – Sjukvårdsrådgivning

The phone number 1177 offers health care advice twenty-four hours a day, year-round, all over Sweden. A nurse will answer your questions, determine the need for further care and recommend which, if any, health care agency you should visit.

Calling 1177 before you visit the ER or any other health institution may spare you a lot of time and worry. The medical advice number also has a website with comprehensive information in different languages. Visit 1177 here.

114 14 – Police number for non-emergency incidents

This is the non-emergency number to the Swedish police. Call 11 414 when you need to make a police report, leave a tip, find information on passport and permit issues or just check on opening hours. The number can also be used when you whish to speak to a specific employee at the police.

113 13 – Information number for none acute accidents and emergencies

Call 113 13 when you need information or have information to give about major accidents or crises such as storms, epidemics, traffic accidents or any major events in the community. You can give and recieve information on this number.
